The Regimental Association of the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment

Our Association produces a variety of publications:

The Janner

The term 'Janner' is used traditionally as a regional nickname to describe a person from Plymouth or indeed any West Country inhabitant. It is thus freely used in Devonshire and Dorset regimental circles. The Regiment maintained for many years an informal newsletter which was given the same name.

The Regimental Association maintains this tradition, and 'The Janner' is a frequent and regular update of Association announcements and news. You will find the latest Janner and copies of previous editions on our Members Area pages.

We encourage contributions to The Janner from all elements of the Association.  Please send them to the Secretary.  See our Contacts Page for details.

The Newsletter

The Regimental Association Newsletter

The Regimental Association Newsletter is published in January each year. This comprehensive magazine incorporates news of the Association’s events, Branch and Focal Point news, a host of informative articles and news provided by members, welfare activity and obituaries.

The Newsletter is sent free to every registered member of the Association. To register, if you have not already done so, you should visit our Members Area page and follow the instructions.

Whilst it is distributed free, the Association depends on donations from its members to function, not least to produce The Newsletter.  We welcome donations towards the cost, should members wish to contribute.  They should be sent to the Association Secretary.  See our Contacts Page for details.

Any contributions for The Newsletter are welcome.  Please send them to the Editor via our Secretary.  See our Contacts Page for details.  The Editor is happy to receive articles and photographs at any time, but the deadline for each edition is Christmas.  So get up in the attic, find those long lost photographs of your time in the Regiment and share them with the rest of us, or write an account of your memories and send it in.  Make the Newsletter your publication by contributing to it.

After years of painstaking preparation, pivotal decisions, detailed staff work, artistic endeavour and comprehensive fundraising, we finally and formally launched our National Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum on Sunday 17 September. Through this website, we have all become familiar with the three harmonised figures of West Country infantrymen, designed and fashioned by our sculptor, Vivien Mallock, from their origin as scale models, through the design, production and casting stages, from miniature to life-sized and from clay to bronze.
